Collins and me, again.

Those who read the Wired piece on junk DNA and anti-evolutionism will have noticed that both Francis Collins and I made an appearance (see here for more). It’s pretty clear that our views on genome evolution differ considerably, stemming perhaps from our larger views about how evolution works (see here). It then occurred to me that this is the second time our thoughts on genomes have been juxtaposed recently. The first was in a series of book reviews in Lab Times by Weanée Kimblewood. You can read the reviews here. It seems The Evolution of the Genome was well received; The Language of God, not so much. Of course, Collins’s book ranks #583 on Amazon.com; mine, not so much.

  1. You know, the only place I’ve seen your book publicized at all is here on your blog. Tell your publisher to send review copies out to a few of us, like me and Larry Moran — a positive review from me is usually good for a few sales.

  2. Indeed — they have mostly marketed it at libraries I think. I’ll see what can be done. 🙂

  3. “The Evolution of the Genome” has been on my to-get list, but I did sort of balk at the price.

I’ll have it within a month, though unlike Paul, I don’t think a review by me will give you any sales. : )

  4. Pshaw, you can get Gould’s ~1200 page “The Structure of Evolutionary Theory” for 30 bucks!

But no worries, I just ordered your book from amazon.com.

As an aside, have you read Lynch’s “The Origins of Genome Architecture”? I was reading some papers from him the other day, so I added his book to my wishlist. I was wondering if you had any comments on it.

But for only $99.95, you can get both!

    Meh.

  6. I have a feeling you’ll be competing with Mike Lynch, and his book is getting pimped pretty heavy.
