Welcome to Mobile DNA blog.

When I began this blog, several of the big-name bloggers were kind enough to point people in my direction. While Genomicron is not in the same league as, say, Pharyngula or Sandwalk, it has become reasonably well established. As such, it could provide at least some help to new bloggers if I make a note of their new blogs.

Case in point, Mobile DNA by Prof. Cedric Feschotte (University of Texas at Arlington). There are few things cooler in genomics than transposable elements (in my humble opinion), and this is the subject of both Prof. Feschotte’s research and his neonate blog. Let’s give him some hits so that he will be encouraged to continue sharing his insights on this topic with the rest of the blogosphere.

If anyone else has started a new blog about genomics or evolution, feel free to link to it in the comments.

  1. Thanks for the promo Professor Gregory.

I have to admit that your blog and a few others are what got me excited by all this blogomania. I realized that this could be a nice alternative to browsing the literature the usual way. And it’s always interesting to see how people react to some of the papers I happen to have read too.

I noticed there is a tendency to be very critical about the published literature in this blogosphere. I think that’s healthy, refreshing and overall very inspiring.

  2. It certainly looks like a very good beginning! Now I know I’ll have more to read than I can possibly make time for.

Incidentally, the features editor at New Scientist noticed my complaint about a couple pieces in that magazine, and has now dared me to write 2,400 words of pop science!

  3. Let introduce you 96well: a PhD student in pharmacology just following your invitation. So… I’m going to start a blog about reporter genes, these fabulous genomic fireworks. Primarily it will be focused in light-producing models. Read the preliminary draft on
