Blogger getting on my nerves.

I don’t know if it’s a common problem, but I have found that many times I have been unable to connect to Blogger, either to write posts or to read comments. It loads the blog page most of the time, but it refuses to connect to the sign in features. As you can see it is really starting to get on my nerves.

  1. I haven’t had a problem with blogger in general, although one of my blogger blogs tends to take a long time to finish loading. It gets stuck on the ScienceBlogs widget. You have a lot of widgets on your blog – could it be that one of them is sticking (and that one loads before your user page?)

I’m just guessing, but it may help to try removing some of them. Alternately, you might want to try entering through http://www.blogger.com/home. If you select “Manage: Posts” you should be able to get to the individual post and see the comments without having to get the comments to load.

Or maybe blogger has something against you personally. That sounds like an equally reasonable explanation to me.

  2. Well the thing is, the blog page loads (usually) but I can’t do anything requiring signing in, and that also means leaving comments on other blogs — sometimes I can’t load *their* comments. And it doesn’t matter which browser I use. It seems to happen at particular periods during the day, so it could be a server issue. Anyway, irritating.

  3. If you go through blogger.com/home you should be able to sign in from that page.

When pages with widgets load slowly (in my, albeit limited, experience) the blog page loads fine. So it’s still possible that it’s something like that.

My rationale is based on the fact that I have three blogger blogs. Two are “clean” – they have a site meter, they have Adsense, and nothing else. The third one has the ScienceBlogs widget. Consistently, the first one seems to hang for a bit (couple minutes) while loading the ScienceBlogs widget, while the other two load immediately. It may not make a difference, but you might want to try deleting some of your widgets and see if it changes anything.

  4. No, I can’t connect to the sign in page, directly or indirectly. But it only happens occasionally — just enough to be aggravating.

  5. A reboot seems to fix it (or at least it did this AM), but not sure why it is mostly blogger that’s affected.
