I quite like the “Google Earth” analogy, and I certainly look forward to the day that we can zoom in and out of phylogenetic trees. (There is one major difference, however: the form of the planet shown in Google Earth is based on direct photos, whereas every phylogeny is a hypothesis that must be tested).
